The seaside resort of Lytham St Annes sits on the Fylde coastline just below Blackpool. With an estimated population of 43,000, the area offers plenty to do and see. It is believed that Lytham St Annes was originally founded in 600 BC and the area has found its fame for links with fishing and shrimping.
Transport to and from the area can be easily done via train, bus or car, offering you several options to get around. The Blackpool South to Preston line stops at Lytham station, St Annes-on-the-Sea station, and Ansdell & Fairhaven station getting you from A to B.
Enjoying the Outdoors
When it comes to making the most of the outdoor spaces around Lytham St Annes, there are plenty of places to go. One of the most popular locations to visit is St Annes Beach, providing space to enjoy the sand and sea views. Whilst the space is great for time with the family, it is worth noting that dogs are banned here between May 1st and September 30th every year.
If gardens and parks are more your thing, then you are in luck. There are several located in and around the area, offering stunning views and places to relax. Ashton Gardens are located towards the centre and has a popular Pavilion offering a place to eat and drink. Lowther Gardens are also worth a visit, with plenty of activities for all the family.
Visiting places of historical interest around Lytham St Annes is another great thing to do. The windmill in Lytham is an interesting historical landmark, offering an important insight into the past of the area. A museum is located here about the history of the lifeboat house and is free entry to all. For those who like beautiful houses set in picturesque grounds, then Lytham Hall is the place to go. The Georgian house attracts around 100,000 visitors a year and has several events on throughout the year.
Activities For The Family
The area also has plenty of activities fit for all members of the family, keeping everybody entertained. Fairhaven Lake located on the inner promenade has a host of activities, including play facilities for children, boat hire, crazy golf, tennis courts, and a skate park. The whole area covers around 19.5 hectares and was opened in the 1890s by the Fairhaven Estates Company.
There are plenty of places to go if you want to experience more culture and heritage. For those who love art, the Fylde Gallery is a great place to visit. Located on Haven Road above Booths supermarket, the gallery offers free access and has exhibitions from local and non-commercial art groups. When it comes to history, the Lytham Heritage Centre is an ideal place to visit. The local heritage group make it their aim to preserve and promote local history and have been dedicated to this since 1987.
The Victorian era St Anne’s Pier sits on the estuary of the River Ribble and has plenty of things to do, including shops and places to eat. The pier was completed in 1885 but over the years parts have been destroyed by fire. English Heritage gave the location a Grade II listing, recognising it as an important historical landmark in the local area.
