About Preston

With an estimated population of 123,000, the city of Preston is the administrative centre of Lancashire and sits to the north of the River Ribble. The area has links back into the Roman period and became a major textile centre during the Industrial Revolution in the North of England. Preston is home to the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) and football team Preston North End F.C.

Transport to the area is easy, with regular buses and trains running between Blackpool and Preston. If you are driving, then the M55 or the A583 are the best roads to use to travel between the two locations. Other routes are available using A and B roads, so it is worth checking your journey before you leave.

With regular and visiting exhibitions, you are sure to find something to enjoy viewing. There are exhibitions based on different battles fought by local regiments, including the Somme from the First World War.
